In a recent video I was ranting on about borders and I made a comparison about how absurd a border wall between Virginia and North Carolina would be. You see, I was born and raised in Virginia so that just seemed like a good imaginary line to draw.
Well …
It turns out there ACTUALLY IS a physical border wall between those two states. These are not AI generated photos. The border “wall” is on the beach beach at Corolla / Carova Beach near Virginia Beach.

Here’s the scoop. North Carolina allows for vehicles on their side, using what they call “sand roads”. Virginia does not. So instead of putting up a simple sign saying not to drive there, they erected a wall.
And yes, those are wires between the posts. It’s a real wall.
Now you can walk freely through an open section without showing ID (one assumes), but driving? Nope. Which seems to me to be a complete overkill of a solution. I did some digging and this info came up:
Why Is There a Border Between States? Because U.S. states are semi-sovereign governments. So the line itself is very real, even if most of the time it’s invisible.
Now this isn’t a diatribe on open borders or using large visible barriers to assuage fears … OK, maybe it is a little … but it’s more of a surprise. Sometimes one says things they assume are ludicrous to make a point, and then somehow it turns out that your “made up example” of idiocracy turns out to be true! LOL!
So the next time I’m up visiting family, I’m going to have to go “sneak across the border”. What can I say … I’m just a scofflaw. 🙂
