When I started planning this video, I had expectations of a traditional travel video. Two in-depth days of riding down to Savannah, followed by an immediate carriage ride with the perfect evening sun highlighting the beautiful architecture of the city.
Well, none of that happened. LOL!
It’s the off-season so carriages stop mid afternoon. About half of the shops and restaurants were closed. There were zero people and zero energy there, and honestly we couldn’t find much to highlight and do. I was ready to just quit on the idea of this video and move forward with something else when …
I had the idea to just be real. Flip the script, as it were. Show what we were experiencing in a funny way. If Savannah was dead in the off-season, then that was the story. The problem was, I had already filmed the intro and laid it down in edit. I was also too lazy to re-shoot it. LOL!
So that’s why this video is what it is.
As far as Savannah and the rest of the stops? They were actually all lovely. Norfolk with friends (while rainy) was a wonderful way to start the trip. Revisiting our first ever stop at Maybritt’s Farm was a sheer pleasure. And Savannah? We still love that city. But what I said at the end is very true … it’s ot a place you “check the boxes”. You have to immerse yourself in it.
We are next heading to New Orleans, and as I type this we are just 11 driving hours away. (Assuming we don’t have to make a medical stop, which is a very real possibility. I’m a little too worried at the moment to share more). So if you’ll excuse me, there is road before us.
