We have a joke here at Pirate Wanderer Central … travel days suck.  We basically write off any day which involves moving suitcases/backpacks.  It’s just less stressful.  But by the time you read this … we might have found a way to change all that.  Maybe.  Hopefully.

We’ve been in Granada Spain for two weeks and have ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!  We actually shortened this part of the trip to accommodate some other things, and I honestly wish we hadn’t.  Yes, we had internet issues (you did watch that video, right??!), but this is a “Súper Rico” town … and I seriously need to come back.  The people here are incredible and it’s like stepping into a whole ‘nuther wonderful country.  This is indeed a bucket list city.

(These look far better than they taste, sadly)

So why did we shorten Granada?  Because lots of things are changing back home.  Some of this is personal, so please forgive any “less than full disclosure”, but we’ve got family health issues, a house that needs to be sold, and some desires to make a slight life detour.  But more on that in a bit.

As you read this we will have traveled halfway to Galicia Spain, which is a region at the very top of the country.  Granada is at the very bottom.  Spain is about the size of Texas (ish, they’re a skosh bit larger) and we wanted to do something other than board a plane.

So we’re taking a train.  🙂

Two legs, one from Granada to Madrid (right smack in the middle of the country) and then another to our eventual destination.  We have a friend in Madrid who is having a birthday, so we want to spend a few days there.  And we figured that with all of the extra time you need for flights (security, get there three hours early, baggage, etc) the few extra hours on rail wouldn’t matter.  I suppose by next week’s post you’ll know if rail is as good, better, or worse than Ryanair.  LOL!

Back to that personal stuff.  I’m going to discuss a lot of this in the BTS video on June 11th, but basically we’re selling the house in Miami.  For a lot of reasons, and with a lot of misgivings.  The short version is that our little Miami suburban home isn’t going to suit our needs anymore.  Not for the foreseeable future.  And it’s a huge seller’s market there right now.  But that will also make us “homeless”, and we need to figure out things like (1) what to do with our stuff, (2) what to do for a permanent address, and (3) what are we going to do, period?

We had originally planned for a year of travel and then on to something similar elsewhere.  But with the rush to get the Miami house sold, and with some unfortunate family issues I need to attend to this summer, it may be time to shift our timelines around a little bit.

And here’s the real behind the scenes stuff … as you may or may not know I quit my career back in December to try and become a full-time YouTuber.  It’s not going well.  I’m still going to keep at it but my rosy eyed visions of stardom and success are fading with each passing week.  It is an almost certainty that by this time next year I’ll be back working full time as a software engineer again.  A thought that fills me with dread, but one has to eat, right?

So I’m now preparing for a life that is both sustainable and enjoyable.  And don’t worry, I love making videos too much to quit, but it might take me a tad longer to be a success.  LOL!  So stay tuned for what is going to come next.  We have two basic possibilities … and we night even combine them.  Yea I know, that’s a sneaky secret to keep.  But I think you’ll enjoy whatever we choose.

More next Saturday!

PS:  Oh, and yea … and the name Pirate Wanderer is back!  More on that next week!
