Welcome to Idiocy 101, I’m your professor, Dr. Moron. 🙂

We’re currently camping out on BLM land, waiting to head out in the morning to Skooliepalooza, when the urge to go hike in the mountains overcame me.

“Rick!”, I said. “Grab your camera and go find that thing the random stranger hinted about!”

And so I went. Complete with inadequate gear and one can of fizzy water. With generally no idea where I was heading. And thus I get to share the journey with you. LOL!

Seriously, it was fun. But also kinda ‘Rick’. On the way down I was following the path … right up until I wasn’t. I guess I was daydreaming or something, but suddenly I realized that I was in a wash, not on a path. And I had zero clue when I left it. I looked, I pondered, and decided to head south towards the mouth of the canyon figuring the parking lot had to be there.

It wasn’t.

Off trail in the Sonoran Desert ain’t fun. It’s not super difficult, but it’s also far from groomed. Whelp … I finally got to the south canyon wall and nope, no cars. So back I went to the wash where I first started, climbed up a small embankment and … there was the lot. Maybe 50′ away. LOL!

I did get to chat with fellas there, one of which was (kinda) in the video. He was the one who pointed out the second palm tree to me. It’s always a hoot to meet folks doing the same silly things you are.
