TALES FROM THE DEEP SOUTH
OK, we’re not quite in Alabama yet, but we’re only miles from the border. The current plan is to head north to Nashville, there to spend a few days. (We’ve never been). And since we’ve also never been in Alabama, we’re going to stroll up through the state taking in what we can, starting with Selma.
But before we get to that, I want to introduce you to someone. This lady:
She runs a laundromat in Fort Walton Beach and was helping us clean several weeks worth of grimy linens. Anyway, I try the bathroom door and it’s locked. She looks at me for a moment and says … “You pee right? No shitty?”. It was all I could do not to crack up laughing. Apparently she doesn’t like cleaning up the bathroom, so she just keeps it locked. I really don’t want to know what the locale clientele does that warrants such an extreme stance. 🙂
After I was done “not shitting” she proceeds to tell us about all the people who come in. “They think they live here, I tell them that they no live here! They leave laundry for days and I throw it away. So stinky!”.
She was an absolute hoot.

IN OTHER NEWS
OK, here’s some “brand” news for ya. If you haven’t yet seen, we have a new website for the entirety of the carnival that is Slow The #%&*! Down. It’s basically geared towards sponsors who might want to … well, sponsor something. It’s also for those who might want to collaborate and frankly, I think it’s kinda cool to see everything we do all in one place.
Check it out: https://masteringthesecondhalf.com

OH, THAT AMERICAN UPBRINGING
OK, back to Selma.
Nikki and I grew up watching the civil rights movement from afar, and frankly I don’t have much of a grasp on the details. Sure, whatever mainstream media and schooling provided me from the 30k’ level exists in my head, but I really don’t know the minutia. So we want to walk in the footsteps as it were.
And no, I don’t expect to become all knowledgable from a few stops in a bus, but walking where it all happened, reading, studying … I think it will give me a good start at learning more. You can’t really get a feel for history until you actually stand in a place.

I promise more next week after we get to Nashville and suffer through the music, food, and beverage. See ya soon!
PS: The cover image? Found that next to a Waffle House …. (num num yummmmm Waffle House!!) … and I’m not really sure how that’s going to work. LOL!
